DON’T DO THIS!

Alright, in my goal of sexifying Ubuntu, i found what i thought was a sexy theme. However, the installation instructions was to install from Terminal. My advice, don’t do this!

This one was called Aqua Dreams, and was on a french site i translated (yeah, i know i’m an idiot). So i run it from terminal, says it installed fine. I go into my themes, don’t see anything new in there. So i try logging out since it apparently has new login screens with it.

BLACK SCREEN!!!

I’m like, oh crap. I had my tvtime open, so the audio was still going. It’s like my video drivers decided to stop working. I assume i’m in the login screen, so i type in my password, then i hear the ubuntu login music. Still black screen. Do a hard reboot, stil black screen for the login screen. At this point, i’m assuming i fucked up royally. So i reboot again, and go into recovery mode, and attempt to do a package fix. It doesn’t do anything, still black screen. So i decided i’m toast, and go in command line via root, and start backing up some of my important stuff that is on my ubuntu partition (basically just my email). I get that all backed up via command line and then decide to try the “Repair X server” option. It does a bunch of junk, and i exit and reboot. Magically, it all works fine now. Needless to say, i’m going to be a bit more careful in the future.

Also, added a new category on here called “Don’t Do This!” as i’m sure we’ll come up with other things that we try that will cause us pain.
